What is Pelvic Health Physiotherapy?

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy focused on the muscles, joints, connective tissues, and nervous system that contribute to pelvic floor function. Assessment considers how the pelvic floor works together with the core, hips, breathing, and movement.

Treatment may include education, individualized exercise, movement and strengthening, bladder and bowel strategies, breathing techniques, and manual therapy when appropriate. Your physiotherapist will discuss assessment and treatment options with you so that care is always based on your comfort and consent.

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Can Help With:

  • Pregnancy & Prenatal Care: Support your changing body, manage pelvic or low-back discomfort, maintain strength and mobility, and prepare for birth.

  • Postpartum Recovery: Support recovery after vaginal or Caesarean birth and safely return to exercise, recreation, and everyday activities.

  • Bladder Concerns: Address urinary leakage, urgency, frequency, and other bladder-related symptoms.

  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse: Help manage symptoms of heaviness, pressure, or bulging through education, exercise, and individualized rehabilitation.

  • Pelvic Pain: Assessment and treatment for pelvic, abdominal, hip, tailbone, or pain associated with pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.

  • Bowel Health: Support concerns related to bowel function, including constipation, straining, and pelvic floor coordination.

  • Pain With Intercourse: Address pelvic floor tension, sensitivity, pain, and other factors that may contribute to discomfort with sexual activity.

  • Return to Exercise & Sport: Progressively rebuild pelvic floor, core, and whole-body strength for a confident return to running, lifting, sport, and an active lifestyle.

  • Pelvic Floor Strength & Coordination: Improve the strength, relaxation, endurance, and coordination of the pelvic floor based on your individual assessment.

Our goal is to provide a comfortable and respectful environment where you can discuss pelvic health concerns openly and receive individualized care that helps you move, exercise, and live with greater confidence.
